Billy Moore

Completed arrangements are being announced for William Erwin "Billy" Moore, 80, of Union City, Tennessee,  who died March 2, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Union City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald E. Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Dancyville United Methodist Church Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Pallbearers will be John Scott, Jimmy Counce, Johnny Reeder, Jeff Merryman, Brad Merryman, Bill Jakes, Miller Jakes and Royce Barker. Honorary pallbearers will be Gus Hargett, Everett Harrison, Rufus Smith, Freck Pollard, Congressman John Tanner, Oliver Gilliam, Robert Garrigan and Parnell Webb.

He was born March 10, 1924, in Dancyville,Tennessee,  son of the late Joseph Birney and Martha (Miller) Moore. He married the former Virginia (Moore) Lusk April 24, 1994. She survives. He was a retired Tennessee Highway Patrol officer, earning the rank of lieutenant. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he had served in World War II and was a retired colonel in the Tennessee National Guard. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Union City and of Union City Masonic Lodge, where he was a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a member of Goodwill Shrine Club and was former public safety director for the City of Union City.

Survivors also include his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Larry Merryman of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Jane Moore of Union City; four grandchildren, Katy Moore and Will Alan Moore, both of Union City, and Jeff Merryman and Brad Merryman, both of Knoxville; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Merryman and Patrick Merryman, both of Knoxville; two sisters, Una Jakes of Nashville and Dorothy Moore of Dancyville; and his brother, Joseph Moore of Dancyville.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall Moore and Gus Moore.
