Mr. Allen Hughes Cogbill, born October 7, 1921 passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the Methodist – Le Bonheur Hospital, Germantown, TN.

A Service of Remembrance is set for Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Peebles, Fayette County Funeral Home Main Chapel in Somerville. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with services set for 10:00 a.m. Interment for the cremation urn will be held at the La Grange Cemetery set for 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow immediately after this at Mr. Cogbill’s home.

A native of La Grange, TN Allen was the second son of Charles Lipscomb Cogbill and Louise Allen Cogbill of La Grange. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Alice and his brother, Charles L. Cogbill.

He is survived by his four children, four grandchildren, and four nephews: Martha (Richard) Mulhern of Baytown TX; Allen Hughes Cogbill, Jr., Los Alamos, NM; Elisabeth Cogbill, (Chris Mikulin) Mt Pleasant, MI; and Lucy Cogbill, La Grange, TN.

Grandchildren: Cynthia (Mulhern) Mills, Jessica Mulhern, Madeleine Cogbill and Andre Cogbill.

Nephews: Charles Lipscomb Cogbill III, Wilmington, DE; James Bradley Cogbill, Ft. Lawn, SC; Andrew Cogbill, Wallingford, PA; & Thomas Allen Cogbill, Burien, WA.

Mr. Allen or Mr. “C” as he was known, graduated from Webb School in Bell Buckle, TN. He then graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B. S. in Chemical Engineering. Allen served in the U. S. Army during WWII with the 29th Engineering Unit in Manila, Philippines.

Allen worked for and retired from the Division of Property Assessment for the State of TN. Allen especially enjoyed photography throughout his lifetime, chronicling family and friends.

The family is grateful for all the assistance he and the family has received from several wonderful caregivers, caring friends and neighbors during the last few years of his life during his illness.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Rosie, Sherron, Kristi, & Fannie, for their love and care for Allen during his illness.
