AUGUSTUS D. DUCK ~ February 3, 1988
Clay County administrator, A.
D. Duck, died at age 83 in his home in Green Cove Springs on Feb. 3, 1988. Mr. Duck,
a native of Tennessee, moved to Florida with his wife and family in 1948.
He was a secondary principal in Green Cove Springs from 1948-1964, and was
Assistant Clay County Superintendent from 1965 until his retirement in 1974. From
1957-1960, he served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Education Association.
Mr. Duck won many honors in his field, including being listed in:
Who's Who in American Education, 1951-66
Who's Who in the South and Southwest, 1961-65
Outstanding Educators in America, 1973-75
Outstanding Floridians, 1971
Mr. Duck is survived by his wife, Mildred Dancy Duck, and his two daughters, Priscilla
Stripling (Walter) of Orlando and Betty Byrd (Marion) of Atlanta. Also surviving are
four grandchildren: Cindy Spivey (Glenn) of Mandarin, Sheri Stripling of Orlando, Steve
Stripling of Gainesville,
and David Byrd of Atlanta.
Services for Mr. Duck were held at 3:30 on Feb. 5 in the Green Cove Springs Methodist
Church, with burial in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Rev. Roy Harris officiated.
Pallbearers were Jesse Tynes, Gerald Guswiler, Jim Smith, Dr. R. M. Paterson, Mervin
Rawley, and Jim Sowell.
