Dr. John D. Hughes
Dr. John D. Hughes of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away on November 9, 1999, only 2 months and 4 days after the death of his twin brother, Dr. James G. Hughes of Memphis. He was 88.
Dr. Hughes founded the Memphis Clinic for Internal Medicine, acting as president until retiring in 1985. He also co-founded the Memphis Heart Association.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in North Africa and Italy, achieving the rank of Colonel by the end of the war.
The widower of Nell Jones Hughes, he leaves a son John J. Hughes, five grandchildren and a sister, Corinne Hughes.
Dr. John D. Hughes was the son of Memphis attorney, Thomas Allen Hughes and the grandson of Dancyville's Thomas Newton and Mary Priscilla Gilliam Hughes.
