THE FAYETTE FALCON Wednesday, August 18, 2004 Mrs. Katherine Richards Howse, a resident of Wilmore, Kentucky and former longtime resident of Somerville, died Thursday evening, August 12, 2004, at the Wesley Methodist Retirement Village in Wilmore, Kentucky where she had been a resident for the past tow years. She was 94 years of age and died following an extended illness. Funeral services were conducted at 11 A. M. Tuesday, August 17th at the Peebles Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Steve Mischke, pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Somerville City Cemetery. Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Howse was born July 18, 1910 in the Whiteville area of Hardeman County, Tennessee. She was educated in public schools of West Tennessee and moved at an early age to Somerville where she was married to the late Lebert Howse of Fayette County. Mr. Howse was a retail grocery merchant on the Somerville Court Square in earlier years and served as Somerville City Administrator before his retirement. Mrs. Howse was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Dr. James Lebert Howse, her sister, Evelyn Clark of the Dancyville Community and her brother, Dr. Aubrey Richards of Whiteville. Mrs. Howse was a devoted member of the Somerville United Methodist Church throughout her life and participated in numerous church activities as long as her health permitted. She served as a South Central Bell telephone operator in earlier years and was later employed as a bank teller for the Somerville Bank & Trust Company and for the First State Bank of Fayette County before her retirement. She was a resident of South Somerville Street in Somerville for much of her life and continued to live alone and maintain her home until moving to the retirement center in Kentucky two years ago. Mrs. Howse was devoted to her family throughout her life and served as a grandmother to the neighborhood children on South Somerville Street. She will be remembered as a gracious, kind person who enjoyed people of all ages. Mrs. Howse is survived by two grandsons, James Michael Howse of Lexington, Kentucky and Christopher Howse of Lexington, Kentucky. Casketbearers were Jimmy Bowling, Will Bowling, Bobby Reeves, James Michael Howse and Christopher Howse.
