Mr. Herbert Glenn Martin, age 82, passed away on Monday,
October 17, 2011 at his residence in Stanton. He was born in Haywood County on July 14, 1929, the son of the late Jessie William Martin and Addie Rhodeline Hardin Martin of Stanton. He was preceded in death by his parents, and also three brothers: Percy Martin, William “Bill” Martin and J. D. Martin and two sisters: Maggie Wright Fountain and Catherine Wright. Funeral services were conducted under the direction of the Brownsville-Bells Funeral Homes on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Christ Church with Bro. Bob Brooks and Bro. Eddie Martin officiating. Interment followed in Dancyville Assembly of God Cemetery in Dancyville. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Louise Campbell Martin; three sons, Chilton Dewayne Martin and wife, Lavada, Eddie Glee Martin and wife, Dianne and Ira Darrell Martin and wife, Beverly; a daughter: Sharon Kaye Martin Watson and husband, Wayne, all of Stanton; 10 grandchildren, Glenda Wilson, Sonya Goodman, Johnny Wayne Watson, Kevin Martin, Becky Burge, Aaron Martin, Kelly Martin, Lindsey Martin, Rachel Porter and Sidney Martin, all of Stanton; 13 great-grandchildren: Randall Phillips, Tyler Phillips, Candice Phillips, Deanne Burge, Robbie Burge, Dustin Martin, Houston Martin, Heath Martin, Elizabeth Porter, Samantha Goodman, Chelsea Goodman, James Goodman and Allie Watson.. Herbert was a 1948 graduate of Haywood High School and attended Mrs. Wylie School in Memphis. He worked in 1949 as a Bookkeeper/Accountant. He owned H. G. Martin’s Country Grocery Store between 1950 and 1975. He was also an independent insurance salesman in 1967. He was an ordinary agent for American Foundation in 1969. On July 14, 1969 to Mary 5, 1991, he was a general agent for Liberty National Insurance. From 1979 to 1995, he was the owner of Martin’s Insurance Agency in Brownsville. He was also a cattle raiser. he was a member of Dancyville Assembly of God Church in Dancyville, where he carried out numerous duties including song leader, church secretary and treasurer for 40 years. He also served as a Deacon, Board Member and Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Gideon’s. He enjoyed singing, telling jokes and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dancyville Assembly of God Church, 13925 Highway 76 S, Stanton, TN 38069. |
