Dr. Payne Dies In Georgia; Services Planned Saturday ~ 1961

Services for Dr. Cleveland Payne of Dancyville will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church there with the Rev. Loyd Hynds officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Church Cemetery.

Dr. Payne, 74, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday morning at the home of his son, Dr. W.W. Payne, in Brunswick, Ga., after a long illness.

Beginning his practice of medicine at Dancyville, Dr. Payne practiced in Oakland for a short time, and after World War I he went to Memphis. He practiced there for 31 years and in semi-retirement moved back to Dancyville to practice until his health forced his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude Pierce Payne; one daughter, Mrs.Genevieve Payne Nolte of Dancyville; and one son Dr. Payne of Brunswick, Ga.

Plans are being made to place the body in his office Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Shortly after noon it will be carried to the church.
