Update to Records, as of, April 2001

In July 2000, Mary Kay Dancy Smith began a read of the Dancyville United Methodist Church Cemetery. The read included; updating the cemetery records, correcting verifiable errors, and adding dates and omissions. The intention and the final result; to provide a cemetery read, with every bit of information available, to assist genealogist with their research and to update the cemetery records. In the Comments section of the listings, pertinent stone inscriptions have been included, along with documented and personally known facts.

The original cemetery records were provided by Miss Dorothy Moore, Secretary-Treasurer and Historian for the Church and Cemetery.
Mr. Frank Bragg provided his excellent cemetery survey and charts. These two tools have been invaluable in the completion of this read.

This read entailed many hours (days) in the cemetery and at the computer. Many folks helped, at different stages of the process,  and their assistance is truly appreciated. Mary Kay's husband, Kenny Smith, deserves Special Recognition, however, for accompanying her on many of the read trips, helping sort out the information and continuing moral support through out the entire process.

On a personal note, I find this cemetery read to be the most complete document possible, short of having all the family and funeral home records. I am sure researchers will be happy to find the additional information, often necessary to place a family member.  May their use of this record be as enjoyable as our pleasure in publishing it to this site.  J.
